Restorative Dental Care

At Distinctive Dentistry, we provide compassionate, comprehensive restorative dental care to residents of the Clackamas area and surrounding communities. Restorative dental care focuses on restoring the function, integrity, and morphology of a missing tooth structure resulting from tooth decay (dental caries), deterioration (weakening) of a previously placed restoration, or fracture of a tooth. Examples of dental restorations include bonding, fillings, bridges, crowns, and implants.

Dental restorations bring back your natural smile and prevent future oral health issues.

Restorative Services

Dr. Klemann is highly trained and experienced, replacing or restoring missing teeth or missing parts of the tooth structure for simple to medically complex cases. At Distinctive Dentistry in Clackamas, we offer the following restorative dental care:

Bonding

Tooth bonding is most useful for repairing chipped or misshaped teeth. Bonding is a process where Dr. Klemann attaches or “bonds” materials directly to your tooth to change the color and shape. The natural tooth enamel is then fused with bonding materials such as porcelain and resins to create a strong structure that feels like your original tooth.

Fillings

Fillings are the most common type of dental restoration used to treat cavities or repair damage to teeth caused by teeth grinding. There are three kinds of fillings: gold, amalgam (silver), and composite resins (tooth-colored fillings). A gold filling is usually the most durable kind of filling. Amalgam fillings are also incredibly hardy, and they don’t cost as much as gold fillings. A composite resin is the most popular kind of filling because it blends in with the color of your teeth. Tooth-colored fillings, though not as tough as gold and amalgam, look the most natural.

Bridges

Bridges are false teeth designed to “bridge” the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Bridges can be anchored on either side by crowns and cemented permanently into place.

Crowns

Crowns (or a tooth-shaped “cap”) are placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance to hold a bridge in place or cover a dental implant.

Implants

Dental implants replace teeth that have been removed. Implants are a small post made of titanium placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth. Implants are covered with a replacement tooth called a crown.

Current technology has created software that allows for computer-guided placement of implants, ensuring a precise fit and improved success rate. The implant surgery and crown placement are done at Distinctive Dentistry, so you do not have to go to multiple places to get your treatment completed.

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are made of acrylic resin sometimes combined with metal attachments.

Other Restorative Dental Services

Sometimes a tooth may become irritated, inflamed, and infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on a tooth, and /or large fillings, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma to the face. As a result, other restorative dental procedures may need to be done, including:

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction, also known as exodontia, is the process of pulling out a tooth from its socket in the bone. For the good of your dental health, Dr. Klemann may recommend a tooth extraction if the tooth is broken or damaged by decay and cannot be saved with a filling, crown, or other dental treatment. In an emergency situation, Dr. Klemann will pull a tooth if it is due to severe tooth pain that worsens with chewing, swollen gums, or jaw pain.

Root Canal

Root canal (or endodontic) treatment is required when the inside of your tooth (the pulp) becomes inflamed or infected. A tooth may become inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, faulty crowns, a crack or chip in the tooth, or a deep cavity or issues from a previous filling.
